I'm trying to add IIS 6.0 to my WXP Prof system in order to start doing.NET development with web pages and I want a personal web server for testing. I keep getting this message: Windows XP Setup Setup could not copy one or more files. The specific error code is 0x4b8. Press OK to continue or Cancel to stop setup and try again. If you continue the components may not function properly.
If I click OK, then IIS doesn't work and IIS.MSC was never installed. Even when I try to copy IIS.MSC and the other IIS.* files from another system, or extract/expand them from the CD, IIS still doesn't work. I am running with Service Pack 2 and installing from a WXP CD with SP2 included.
Oct 19, 2004 one is Windows XP with SP 1 included on the CD and one is Windows XP (without SP 1 on the CD) My problem was that I attempted to install IIS on my laptop from the wrong CD - of course, the laptop knew that it needed a 'special' SP 1 cd only, and it refused to work with the other CD. Ihave a server that I need to install IIS on - however I don't have the windows 2003 CD available. Installing IIS on windows 2003 without the windows CD.

I am just trying to use the Add/Remove Windows Components (appwiz.cpl) to add 'Internet Information Services (IIS)' I've Googled the problem (searching the Internet and newsgroups) and it seems that there are a number of people that are having this problem - even back to 2003. There has been no clear and consistent solution to the problem. Some have just re-installed, some have made changes to C: Windows Security and others have removed some components, like Games, while adding IIS. I've tried all the possible solutions I've found so far and I am hoping that there is a more clear solution by now.

It's a lifesaver. Only having a 30gb hd in my small laptop I deleted the i386 install folder and the sp2/3 folders to save space. This has saved me hours of hunting thru the attic for my original xp disk (in a box somewhere, but god knows where it is!) very much appreciated said. Thank you sir. I consumed 2 days in finding this solution. This is a nice work you brought in here.
